From Firenze you can easily reach the other cities of Toscana: Pisa (1 hour), Lucca (1,5 hour) og Siena (1,5 hour).  The main train station is in the middle of the city and there are direct trains to Venezia (2,5 hours), Roma (1,5 hours), Milano (2:45), Bologna (1 hour), and so on.  Firenze is completely flat, and you can rent a bike by the main train station. 
The city of filled to the rim with art and world-changing history.  A one-day visit does not suffice, so plan on several.  Or stay a week.

The city of the Renaissance

Firenze is a huge outdoor museum.  A short visit in the city can start at the main railway station, then to the magnificent cathedral with it's stunning dome, visit Piazza della Signoria where is David, pass the world famous Uffizi gallery and end at the old Ponte Vecchio with  it's jewelers.
