The town marked		 The small town San Miniato might not be very well known.  It is dwarfed by Firenze (Florence), Siena and Pisa.   Fortunately, because it leaves San Miniato as an oasis in a sea of tourists.  San Miniato is a very typical Tuscan hill town, but the location is in the very center of Toscana.  From here all the more well known locations are within reach. 
Il Seminario (the old school for priests)
San Miniato was an important administrative  center  in the Middle Ages.  It was one of the most important towns in this area after Firenze had conquered the rest of Toscana.   Even though it is a mere town, San Miniato has a rich history in art and culture.  Today, San Miniato is best known for

 Truffles
Every year, the last three weeks in November, the famous truffles festival takes place in San Miniato.  The streets are closed to traffic, and the narrow streets are teeming with people enjoying the Tuscan cousine.  Every year there are guided trips into the hills to learn how to find the white gold.

Theater
San Miniato is the main town for theater in Tuscany.  In town there is a theater school for children, a doll-theater festival is arranged annual, in addition to the main international theater festival named  "La Luna è Azzurra" that takes place every June/Juny.  During the festivals there are live theater in the streets of San Miniato.

The Town of Flavours
As a 'slow city' , San Miniato emphasizes traditional food.  You find local ingredients in  the wide variety of stores, and traditional dishes in the trattorias.San Miniato is well know for its production of meat, olive oil, and good wines. Being vegetarian is not at all hard here.

Vacation homes
If you prefer to stay in the midst of the old town, in a quiet side street, then Borgonuovo is for you.  There are three small apartments, one of them with a garden and terrace.
If you choose to stay somewhat outside town, on one of the hills with swimmingpool, there are several possibilities.

Il Convento di San Francesco is still in use by 9 monks. Situated on a hill with a very nice view.  Modest but clean rooms, all with private bathroom.  Single, double and triple rooms.  Facilities for meetings with up to 90 persons.
From San Miniato you can take the train to Firenze (Florence) in about 1/2 hour.  To Pisa is also about 1/2 hour.  You will find the famous towns of San Gimigniano and Volterra not far from here.  And the splendid city of Siena.
